sandy. meantime stocks have closed with a worse one day stock of the year. the bigger problem is that the fiscal cliff that is being debated. the dow jones average plunged by about 300 points. and it ended at 12,932. the s&p 500 dropped by 32. the unemployment benefits are one of the big days that will drive trading today. we will see what will happen with the opening bell rings. >> everyone had to get out of this embassy suites hotel. >> the reason why they had to get out of their rooms was because of carbon monoxide. this happened about 1:00 a.m. this morning. if the fire department just left about 20 minutes ago. they are finally okay to return to their room. the one common denominator is that they're probably very tired after a long night. >> here is video that we received when we arrived at 1:00 the morning. this is all the guests who are in the lobby. the fire department went room to room to make sure that there was no victims. they learned that it came from a boiler. and this boiler either warms the whawater at the hotel. here is what residents said. >> and recorded a v

storm sandy. tonight, the recovery efforts underway the dramatic pictures and a major airport and police. but first, i am here in the kron 4 weather center with jacqueline bennett. jacqueline, how has this so- called nor'easter past? >> because of the wind changing and wrapping around the system as it pushes to the north we are getting rainfall and that is going to taper off. even overnight and taking a closer look weaken its see hull a devastating this nor'easter has been. because weekend- see how devastating it has been from super storm sandy. with 1 ft. of snowfall from this system and very damaging wind. knocking out power and threatening homes. you can see the homes but it is dying out a little bit with the winter weather advisories have been lifted. just dealing with this heavy rainfall and as it presses back towards canada. the threat is pretty much gone and we will speak hopefully get power restored. >> this region that is reeling from super storm sandy that is the last thing they needed was the least the new jersey governors saying that it is only only delaying the clean up abou

christmas tree but only briefly. they got back to the job at hand. let's check in now with sandy to see what is on radar tonight. >> we have spotty showers around the bay area but what is getting interesting is the snow that has been developing. let's go to the live doppler and around the ukiah area near the clear lake north of clear lake you look very carefully we have had some pink showing up. mixed precipitation east of the ukiah area and north of lake port so the mountains there getting some colder moving in. where we are getting showers rate now. around monterey it's coming down. it's light to moderate at this hour. watsonville very light returns. we are far from through as you look at this the wider picture here look at the lightning strike that we have been seeing just northwest of the bay area. they have been basically dissipating but we are seeing some lightning strike so keep it in mine. thunderstorm possibility in the poker. sierra nevada chain control on interstate 80. highway 50 state route 4 and 88. they are getting some snow so far half foot and counte counteding.

:00, gasoline prices starting to fall even as the east coast experiences shortages due to super storm sandy. the average price for a gallon of gas is 4.08. oakland, 3075. we show you how prices have dropped and explains why. >> reporter: this is be probably the best place to get your finger on the average price of a gallon of gas in the bay area. this is just off of interstate 80. we were here last week, 3.99 a gallon and today it's 3.89, 10 cents cheaper per gallon in one week. the prices are projected to go down even more. the price of gas has trended downward over the last two weeks and is expected to continue that trend for another week or so. the switch to winter blend and a major drop in oil prices are the main reason for the drop. but also, remember last month? record high prices hit drivers hard in the early parts of october. two california refineries had production costs. the price drop is a reflection of march kit correction and indicate a more stable outlook for the future. >> i commute to san francisco. i had to make a loop around in order to not run out of gas. it's definitely
